25 April is ANZAC DAY; I watch the parade, while eat some ANZAC cookies (in Indonesia it is known as roti kelapa). Watching the parade and watching for dawn ceremony at Gallipoli on TV, I can feel a very strong sense of patriotism. Similar to the situation we saw in Indonesia every August 17. Somehow, I feel proud because I can sense spirit of patriotism greater in Indonesia. In August, people is not just celebrating Independence day with parade, but also by holding varieties of activities such as sport championship, culture show, and festival in every town. People also be delighted with festival in every early of October, near to Kesaktian Pancasila Day and ABRI Day (military day). I know that this is one of the inheritances of Soeharto era, but hey, give him a fair go, let’s blame him for a great sense of patriotism and joy of various festival and parade.
